Club Guide : Alphabreaks

Official Bio

Alphabreaks operates from Montys, Dunfermline. As a bit of background, the music policy is Hip Hop and Drum 'n' Bass and the club has been running very successfully on a monthly basis for almost a year. The night is run by myself, Mikey Dean and Murray McKay all of Dunfermline.

Mikey is resident DJ, Murray is the sound engineer and I am the promoter, although we all do a bit of promotion, design work etc.

We started alphabreaks to offer an alternative to all of the commercial clubs in Dunfermline. None of the other clubs have tried anything by way of alternative club nights and anyone in Dunfermline who wanted something different has always had to make the trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow and pay the additional travel expenses for something that the have the right to experience in their own area. Dunfermline is an ever expanding place and a lot of people are now moving over from the bright lights to live here. We have just been re-classified as a city, so why the hell not have some alternative music to go with the new status?

Since alphabreaks started just over 1 year ago Monty's has now become a mecca of alternative beats with everything from Froot (a Techno night run by DJ Mitchell) to 'Is this Music?' run by Kev Lynch and Matt Dean (This is an alternative fucked up electro band night and supported by Stuart Mchugh of Radio Magnetic and his magazine, 'Is this music?'

We have managed to turn an old, grey, set in it's way's town into a vibrant city centre, well at least on a Friday night.

We have guest DJ's that play every second month and which have included G-mac (Manga.) The General, who was until recently, also resident at Manga, DJ Kid (Manga / Jungle Magik / Restless Natives) and DJ Kryptic (Restless Natives)

On 1st October we celebrated our first birthday at Monty's and our guest was Peshay (Cubik Music) who "Blew the fuckin' roof off!" (His words not mine, but I do agree).

Everyone who has played and has enjoyed the unique alphabreaks party vibe word, of which, is spreading throughout the Scottish industry and it's main players. Our next event is 19 November 2004, with Beast (Rogue State), wTrouble (Edinburgh:Bassed) and MC Sonny (Manga / Edinburgh:Bassed / Kool FM) plus residents Mikey Dean & Russell

Our resident DJ Mikey Dean has recently played Jungle Magik supporting Fabio & special guest Peshay along with additional support from Jnr Bryson and is due to return to the club on 15 October 2004 to support, Mickey Finn, Aphrodite. His slot is a battle with DJ Kid after a Restless Natives showcase of DJ Kryptic / DJ Samurai and Charlotte. Mikey is available for bookings by E-mail at mikeydean@hotmail.com
